Message work performed, then you ARE a business "of any sort"......you even go on to refer to people as customers yourself, so lets be honest here, if you dont want to be held accountable to things going wrong or problems with "customers" then you need to not accept money for working on other people's car. How many other "hobbies" do you receive payment for?

You screwed yourself when you decided to let people drop their cars off with you to work on. No sympathy here.

My recommendation? Give him all his money back that he has given you, cut your losses tell him to come pick up his car (either drive it or tow it), and stop pretending to be a mechanic if you do not have the means to be a mechanic.
